Vibe coding in Russia: which tools work and what they cost
Which vibe coding tools you can connect to models through a gateway, how to set them up and what an hour of agent work costs.
6 min · · агенты · development
Vibe coding in Russia comes down to three practical questions: which tool to pick, how to connect a strong model to it, and how to pay for it. Below we go in order: what exists in this class of tools, which of them can be pointed at a gateway, how to set them up and what an hour of work costs in tokens.
What vibe coding means in practice
You describe a task in words, the agent writes and edits code, runs it, reads the errors and repeats. Your role is to set the task, look at the result and stop it in time. Here we care about something else: what to work with and what to pay for.
An important detail when choosing a tool: an agent works in a loop of dozens of requests, and each one carries the entire accumulated conversation. That is why spend is counted in working hours, not in "questions".
Vibe coding tools: what connects through a gateway
Tools fall into two classes. The first lets you set your own API address and key: they work with any compatible gateway. The second is tied to the maker's account, with sign-in through their login and a subscription on their site. Availability of the second class from Russia depends on region and the service's terms, which we do not know, so check the tool's site. Below is only the first class.
| Tool | Type | Format | Base URL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | terminal | Anthropic | https://api.zukko.pro |
| OpenCode | terminal | Anthropic (the anthropic provider via the AI SDK) | https://api.zukko.pro/v1 |
| Codex | terminal | OpenAI-compatible | https://api.zukko.pro/v1 |
| Cursor | editor | OpenAI-compatible | https://api.zukko.pro/v1 |
| Cline, Kilo Code | VS Code extension | OpenAI-compatible | https://api.zukko.pro/v1 |
Roo Code is not in the table: its developers shut the extension down on May 15, 2026.
The rule is easy to remember: clients that add /v1 themselves (Claude Code, the official Anthropic SDK) get the address without it. Clients on the OpenAI format get the address with /v1. The exception is OpenCode: it works through the Anthropic provider but needs the address with /v1, otherwise requests go to /messages and get a 404. This is the most common cause of 404 errors and is covered in detail in base URL with or without /v1.
Vibe coding with Claude: setting up Claude Code
If you specifically want Claude models in the terminal, the most direct path is Claude Code. It reads three environment variables:
export ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=https://api.zukko.pro
export ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN=fetch_your_key
export ANTHROPIC_MODEL=claude-sonnet-5-5
claudeThe same in PowerShell:
$env:ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL = "https://api.zukko.pro"
$env:ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN = "fetch_your_key"
$env:ANTHROPIC_MODEL = "claude-sonnet-5-5"
claudeNote that the key goes into ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN specifically; a differently named variable will not work. Step-by-step instructions are in the Claude Code documentation. For hard tasks you can switch the model to claude-opus-5-5: it costs twice as much per token, with an intelligence index of 58 against 48.
Connecting Cursor and extensions
For Cursor and VS Code extensions the scheme is the same: in the provider settings choose an OpenAI-compatible API, set the Base URL https://api.zukko.pro/v1, the key fetch_... and a model name from the list. The exact menu item names, and whether overriding the address is available on your plan and in your version, change from release to release: check the tool's own documentation. Our steps are in the Cursor guide. Note that Cursor does not let you add a model under a name it already knows, so the documentation lists second names for popular Claude models.
A quick key test before configuring any tool:
curl https://api.zukko.pro/v1/balance -H "Authorization: Bearer $ZUKKO_API_KEY"The response is JSON with the balance. A 401 means the key was entered incorrectly. The model list GET /v1/models is not suitable for checking a key: it is open and does not validate the key.
What an hour of vibe coding costs
Assume an hour of agent work is 40 steps, each with an average of 50 thousand tokens of context and 1 thousand tokens of reply. That makes 2M input tokens and 40 thousand output tokens. Formula: input × input price + output × output price. Prices as of 18 October 2026, $ per 1M tokens, without cache:
| Model | Calculation | Per hour |
|---|---|---|
deepseek-v4.1-flash | 2 × 0.013 + 0.04 × 0.038 | about $0.028 |
gpt-6.1-sol | 2 × 0.27 + 0.04 × 1.32 | about $0.59 |
claude-sonnet-5-5 | 2 × 0.4 + 0.04 × 2 | $0.88 |
For Claude in the Anthropic format (which is how Claude Code works) the gateway sees the cache. Suppose that of the 2M input tokens, 1.6M are read from cache, 0.2M are written to cache and 0.2M are fresh input. Then for claude-sonnet-5-5: 1.6 × 0.05 + 0.2 × 0.5 + 0.2 × 0.4 + 0.04 × 2 = 0.08 + 0.10 + 0.08 + 0.08 = $0.34. The cache shares here are illustrative, real ones depend on the tool and the task; the general principle is covered in the article on calculating agent cost with cache.
The spread between a cheap and an expensive model is tens of times, which is a good reason not to run everything through the strongest one. A practical approach: start routine work and small edits on deepseek-v4.1-flash or glm-5.3-flash, and switch to a model with a higher intelligence index, such as claude-sonnet-5-5 (48) or claude-opus-5-5 (58), where the cheap one fell short. Check on your own tasks: price and intelligence index do not replace a test.
How to pay
The balance is shared, in dollars, with top-ups from $1. Access from Russia goes through the gateway, with payment by SBP, MasterCard or crypto:
- SBP: in rubles at the market rate at the time of payment, and the payment page adds an 8.5% fee on top. For example, a $5 top-up costs in rubles the equivalent of $5 × 1.085 = $5.425, while $5 is credited to the balance.
- Cryptocurrency, for example USDT.
- MasterCard cards: a fee of about 13%, amounts of $2 to $594.
How to keep spending under control
Vibe coding easily slides into an endless loop of edits, so three habits help:
- A separate key for each tool or project and a daily dollar limit per key. Limits are set in the dashboard when you create or edit a key.
- Git commits before a big request, so a bad result can be rolled back.
- Stopping the agent if it goes in circles: a third edit in a row to the same spot without progress is the signal to stop the session and rephrase the task.
Create a key in the dashboard. There is no sign-up bonus, but subscribing to the @zukkopro channel gives a one-time $0.50 per Telegram account: enough to check the connection, not for permanent work.
FAQ
Do I need Claude Code to do vibe coding?
No. It is one of the terminal agents. There are also OpenCode, Codex and VS Code extensions; the choice depends on where you prefer to work: in the terminal or in the editor.
Can I start with the cheapest model?
Yes, and for routine work it is reasonable: an hour on deepseek-v4.1-flash costs about $0.03 by the calculation above. If the result is not good enough, switch to a stronger model and repeat the same task.
Why does the agent return 404?
Most often the base URL is wrong: /v1 was added where the client adds it itself, or omitted where it was needed. Check against the table above.
Where can I see how much I spent?
In the dashboard, the "Usage" section, and through the balance and usage API. Check spend after the very first hour with a new tool.
