1. In the dashboard↗ create a separate key for your phone (name it, for example, "phone").
2. Set a daily dollar limit on the key and, if you like, allow it only the models you need. Once the limit is reached the key gets a 429, and the rest of the balance stays untouched.
3. In the client settings choose an OpenAI-compatible provider (or "custom API") and enter:

4. Send a test message and check that the spending appeared in the "Usage" section.

On key safety on a phone: enter it only in trusted apps, do not send it in messengers, keep a separate key with a low limit. If the phone is lost, delete the key in the dashboard. A new key takes a minute to create.

What a conversation from a phone costs

Prices as of October 18, 2026: claude-sonnet-5-5 costs $0.4 per 1M input tokens and $2 per 1M output tokens. In the OpenAI format (how mobile clients work), all input for Claude is charged at the input price, with no cache discount. In a chat each new request contains the whole history, so input grows.

Example of a 20-turn conversation. Assumptions: each turn (question plus answer) adds 500 tokens to the history, with 400 output tokens each.

• Total input: 500 × (1 + 2 + … + 20) = 500 × 210 = 105,000 tokens
• Total output: 20 × 400 = 8,000 tokens
• Input: 105,000 × 0.4 / 1,000,000 = $0.042
• Output: 8,000 × 2 / 1,000,000 = $0.016
• Total: $0.058

The longer the conversation, the faster input grows, so start a new chat for new topics. If your tasks are simple, you can take a cheaper model, for example gpt-6.1-sol ($0.27 / $1.32) or deepseek-v4.1-flash ($0.013 / $0.038): the same 105,000 input and 8,000 output cost (105,000 × 0.27 + 8,000 × 1.32) / 1,000,000 = (28,350 + 10,560) / 1,000,000 ≈ $0.039 and (105,000 × 0.013 + 8,000 × 0.038) / 1,000,000 = (1,365 + 304) / 1,000,000 ≈ $0.0017 respectively.
